Alexis O’Callahan is a PhD candidate in Environmental Dynamics at the University of Arkansas, where she has earned a Graduate Certificate in Sustainability and is working towards a Graduate Certificate in G.I.S. She received her B.S. in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Philosophy from Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City, NJ. Her research focuses on further developing how we quantify and conceive of ecosystem services in order to promote holistic and equitable natural resource management. She leverages open source macroscale data, bioinformatics, landscape ecology, geospatial statistics, and social science to understand how we can better measure and evaluate these sources of complexity in socio-ecological systems. By teasing out the spatial dynamics of soil microbes and nature’s contributions to people, she hopes to provide insight on how to better integrate these often-omitted systems in environmental decision-making across geopolitical scales.
