Cecile examines how local, regional, and geopolitical contexts shape the priorities and framing of climate science in the development of Earth system models. Her research investigates the implications when these models inform policy decisions, as well as the epistemological choices and employment conditions of the scientists who build them. She is interested in the assumptions and values embedded in these models, particularly in Arctic and mountain environments. Despite growing but still limited computing power, large-scale models often claim to represent the “majority” yet primarily reflect Global North priorities, leaving marginalised environments and communities poorly represented.
