Christophe Bonneuil is a Senior researcher in history of science, science studies and environmental history at the Centre de Recherches Historiques (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique & École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris). He has sketched a global environmental history of the Anthropocene (The shock of the Anthropocene. The Earth, history and us, Verso, 2016, with J-B. Fressoz; The Anthropocene and the Global Environmental Crisis : Rethinking Modernity in a new Epoch, Routledge, 2015, with C. Hamilton and F. Gemenne). His article “Early warnings and emerging accountability: Total’s responses to global warming, 1968-2021” (2021 in Global Environmental Change with B. Franta & P.-L. Choquet) offered one of the first longitudinal studies of a major fossil fuel company’s responses to global warming to the present. His ongoing research investigates climate knowledge, climate debates and climate obstruction from the 1960s to the 1990s.
