Darren Rabinowitz is hold a Ph.D. in International and Comparative Education from Teachers College, Columbia University with a concentration in Sociology. His research focuses on three areas: climate change and the environment, sustainable peace, and youth social movements. Darren’s dissertation research looked at Environmental Rights in Constitutions (EPICs) and their relationships with environmental and sustainability education policy making and student environmental citizenship outcomes across 22 countries. Overall, Darren’s current research explores how education can influence human behaviors that contribute to climate change and, in turn, support countries’ sustainable development and climate mitigation efforts toward greener economies, political structures and societies. A main thrust of his research is to map how State-sanctioned education discourses are diffused, how students make sense of these discourses and in what ways they inform their values, behaviors, and futures. Darren is a research associate at the Teachers College Center for Sustainable Futures and has worked on research projects with UNESCO, the Monitoring and Evaluation of Climate Chnage Education (MECCE) project and the National American Assocation for Environmental Education. He holds an M.A. in International Education Development from Teachers College, Columbia University with a specialization in Peace and Human Rights and a B.A. from American University in Interdisciplinary Studies.
