Etienne Schneider is a political scientist interested in the politics and political economy of climate change mitigation and social-ecological transformation. In his research, he focuses specifically on the intersection of industrial and climate policy in the EU in light of present geopolitical shifts and backlash to climate policy. His current research project, funded through the APART-GSK programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), examines the emerging industrial policy and politics of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and residual emissions in the EU, and how this links to the EU’s carbon management policy agenda. Additional research foci include demand-side climate change mitigation, historical-materialist policy-analysis, green hydrogen and structural limitations of the decarbonisation state.
