Ned Westwood is a Post-Doctoral Social Data Scientist at the University of Miami and affiliate researcher at the Centre for Climate Communications and Data Science at the University of Exeter. He holds a PhD in Environmental Intelligence from the University of Exeter with a thesis titled ‘Advertising the Heroes and Villains of Climate Change: Narratives in Sponsored Posts on Facebook and Instagram in the United States’. Ned’s research interests lie in computational narrative analysis, mixed-methods research, the attention economy, misinformation, and digital advocacy. In his recent work he has developed a computational pipeline for narrative detection in shortform video content on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
