Dr. Pedzisai Kowe is Human and Physical Geographer, Geospatial and Earth Observation and an Environmental Scientist. Currently, Dr Pedzisai Kowe is Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa in which he was awarded the prestigious Wits Centennial Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Climate, Sustainability, and Inequality for the period 2024-2026. His research work has focused on developing and applying Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques to address environmental challenges in Africa such as urban climate change, urban heat islands and land surface temperature changes, rapid urban growth and vegetation fragmentation in urban areas. His research has informed policy and practice in Zimbabwe and beyond, and he is widely respected as the leading expert in his field. Dr Pedzisai Kowe has trained and worked with various organizations in Zimbabwe, Africa and Europe in using information provided by Earth observation satellites and geospatial technologies to promote evidence-based policy and practice. He is a full member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), The Global Health Network and African Scientists Directory.
