I am a PhD researcher at the Department of Media Studies in Maynooth University, Ireland. My research project is titled “The formation of climate migration: media discourse, political ideology and civic action in the emergence of a ‘future problem’”. The aim of the research is to map and critically interrogate how the category of climate migration is framed in media coverage, how the framing is produced and contested, and its implications for climate policy and action and treatment of people categorised as climate migrants. Alongside academic research, I am a climate and environmental justice educator. This work principally focuses on digging into the links between historical and modern-day colonisation and climate change, and solidarity with communities on the frontlines of extractivism. Most recently this work is with the City of Dublin Education and Training Board and Friends of the Earth Ireland.
